SDPHA Members,
I think spring has
sprung, finally a break from the snow and cold. Hope you are all doing well;
spring always gives us a new outlook as everything comes to life and starts
anew. A good time to reflect on God's creation and all the wonders He has
given us for our enjoyment here on earth. As many of you know our club has
been in a discussion with the MN club trying to work out a situation on show
dates that would be beneficial for both in lieu of the economic climate, the
depressed horse prices, and the falling numbers at all the horse shows. Last
month the MN BOD met and saw fit to schedule a POR at Cannon
Falls on the same weekend as our
July show.
Our club recognizes the
fact that SD does not have the convenience of being able to put on a show
with only SD horses, we simply do not have the numbers, and we have always
been dependent on our neighbors in the surrounding states to patronize our
shows. MN has been a main player in this and we are appreciative of this
fact. I have no idea why they would choose to make this move but what's done
is done and we will just have to make the best of it. So I would ask that if
you are a member of the SDPHC or know anyone who would like to be, load up
your horses and bring them to the July and September shows, we will need
your participation. Thanks! May you all have a happy, healthy and
successful show season this year. Denny
Congratulations:
To Lance & Sharon
Hanson of Groton SD who were listed in the April 2008 APHA Journal as being
#7 2007 Leading Breeders of performance Paint Horse with 1155 points and 3
horses being shown. Their mare Miss Dee Dexter was #3 for 2007 leading
performance dam with 2 of her colts being show with 1124 points.
Congratulation to the Lance and Sharon who moved up from 2006 where they
were #19th.

Registration Incentive means huge savings on APHA
transactions
FORT WORTH, TEXAS—The newest benefit to joining
and becoming an active member of the American Paint
Horse Association (APHA) is to save money. For a
limited time, APHA is offering members significant
savings on transactions through the Registration
Incentive program.
The two major parts of the Registration Incentive
give deep savings for registering older horses and
for multiple transfers of registered horses.
Registering Older Horses
The incentive allows a discounted registration fee
for Paint Horses 2 years old and older, and is
available for both Regular Registry and Solid Paint-Breds.
APHA encourages owners to take advantage of the
opportunity to register older Paint Horses at a
greatly reduced rate and save up to $400.

Multiple Transfers
The second portion of the Registration Incentive
allows current owners to transfer ownership of a
registered American Paint Horse multiple times for a
one-time fee of $15. For example: John bought a
horse from Steve, who bought it from Shirley. If
Steve had not sent in the horse’s registration
certificate and paid his transfer fees, John would
normally have to pay for two transfers ($30) to get
the horse registered in his name. Under the Transfer
provision, John pays only $15.
“Now is the perfect time to take advantage of the
multiple transfer discount and update your horse’s
ownership records if you find yourself in this
situation,” said APHA Managing Director of
Registration Cindy Grier.
Free Services
APHA also regularly offers a number of certificate
corrections at no charge. Qualifying transactions
include color changes, geldings, brands and tattoos.
All registered American Paint Horse owners are
encouraged to look over their horses’ registration
certificates at this time and submit any updates to
APHA to bring their records and the association’s
current. You can update your horse’s records, save
money, renew your membership and your subscription
to the Paint Horse Journal, find your local
regional club and check out the list of upcoming
trail rides all by visiting
apha.com or

Updates:
Changes
made to YEAR END AWARDS section in
Bylaws (pg 3 & 4).
Ø
To be eligible for the SDPHC
Year-end Awards you must be a current paid up member in good standing with
the SDPHC (adult club). Show entries paid with a bad check would
automatically lose all points at that show towards state end of the year
awards. All exhibitors and owners must be an APHA member to show; including
all divisions, open, youth, and amateur.
Ø
With his/her current
membership, a SDPHC member is eligible to win High Point Grand or Reserve
year- end awards for any horse he may own that has earned a total of 10
points or more in any class in at least 50% of the classes judged at the
South Dakota Paint Horse club sponsored. Points from all other APHA approved
South Dakota Paint Shows will count after participation in at least 50% of
SDPHC sponsored shows has been met. Classes must be offered in at least
three different shows for the end of the year award to be presented. If the
horse is High Point Grand or Reserve for the year in any class and has not
earned at least 10 points, then only a certificate will be issued as the
Year-End award.
Reminder:
To be eligible for the
Yearling Triathlon (longe line, trail and halter) you need to enter the
class designated for Triathlon Halter plus Longe Line and Trail, if anyone
